چکیده

We present transient and asymptotic reliability indices for a single-unit system that is subject to Markov-modulated shocks and wear. The transient results are derived from the (transform) solution of an integro-differential equation describing the joint distribution of the cumulative degradation process and the state of the modulating process. Additionally, we prove the asymptotic normality of a properly centered and time-scaled version of the cumulative degradation at time t. This asymptotic result leads to a simple normal approximation for a properly centered and space-scaled version of the system’s lifetime distribution. Two numerical examples illustrate the quality of the normal approximation. Author to whom correspondence should be addressed.

Availability of Periodically Inspected Systems with Markovian Wear and Shocks

We analyze a periodically inspected system with hidden failures in which the rate of wear is modulated by a continuous-time Markov chain and additional damage is induced by a Poisson shock process. We derive explicitly the system’s lifetime distribution and mean time to failure, as well as the limiting average availability. The main results are illustrated through two numerical examples.

A shock and wear system with memory of the phase of failure

We study a system subject to shocks arriving following a Markovian arrival process. These shocks can be repairable or fatal. The non-fatal shocks cause damage to the system. The lifetimes between shocks and the repair times are governed by phase-type distributions. Repair is not as good as new, a geometric process is introduced for modeling the successive operational times. After a prefixed num...

Shock and Wear Models under Matrix-analytic Methods

Abstract: A device subject to shocks arriving randomly is considered. Every shock can be fatal or not. The shocks follow a Markovian arrival process. When the shock is fatal, the device is instantaneously replaced. The Markov process governing the shocks is constructed, and the stationary probability vector calculated. The probability of the number of replacements during a time is determined. P...

Improving the surface wear resistance of aluminum by electrical discharge process

In this study electrical discharge process was used to increase surface wear resistance of pure aluminum. Pulse-on-time and pulse current were considered as input parameters of the electrical discharge process. Experimental results reveal that the electrical discharge process is a successful method for improving the surface wear resistance of aluminum, so that this method has greatly increased ...
